#Discover. #Entdecke. #Decouvrir featured level 1Let them fail. Those ships won’t magically disappear. They’ll sail again under different ownership, the general public will be fine.level 2For real, people are acting like the economy will collapse over these cruise companies. How many people can even afford to take cruises? And furthermore out of the people who can, who actually chooses to over other vacations? Did the economy fail when milk men phased out of existence? Of course not. And there were significantly more milk men than there are US cruise ship workers today, considering most are hired from abroad.level 2And they are responsible for more pollution then almost all cars in the world combined.level 2So you are saying, let the free market decide? Gee, isn’t that what the right says all the time? Go capitalism! Let them fail.level 2I fucking wish they would just magically disappear.level 2They’ll sail again under different ownershipThese are the 0.1% bailing themselves out. The 20% is licking their lips at the chance of owning cheap stock. Then the Free Money going to the 70% is NOT going to the 20%. This is literally class warfare against the 20%ers.level 2And also with the airlines.level 2Or if they never sailed again that would be great too considering how toxic they are.level 2Unless no one buys the ship and they sell it for scrap metal.level 1Sooooo… make it so only companies that fly under the USA flag or are based here in the USA get money. The cruise lines should go to the specific countries that they fly under for assistance. The USA citizens that work for those companies should get assistance, however.level 2Or don’t give cruise ships bailouts, they’re not exactly vital industry.Edit: It’s awful for the people that suffer from lay-offs but that just means that we need to restructure the system so that we give money to the individual employees who need it while letting useless companies bleed.level 2There’s literally only one cruise ship that flys the American flag and I believe it’s owned by a Norwegian company ironically enoughThe pride of America is its name and is ported in Hawaiilevel 2I’m sorry about the language but fuck the cruise lines! If they get bailed out then it’s time for them to sign agreements (which they wouldn’t sign before) to use cleaner fuel and up the fines for dumping their fucking trash in the oceans.level 2OR make it so no company can get a bail out higher than 10% of the taxes paid by said company in the last 10 years. (Specific numbers can be decided by people that know more about economics)Companies that dodge taxes are 100% on their own. Companies that pay into the government can be considered for bailouts in desperate times. No company can suddenly start paying taxes the year before things go to shit (if they have insider info or something) and still get a big bailout. If corporate bailouts are going to happen at all, there needs to be some framework for protecting the government and it’s people from abuse by these companies.
